Eric and I only heard of each other until
1998 when we finally tied the face in with the name. We did several
shows together in 1998-2000. I had the pleasure of uncovering the funky
side of Eric Essix on my latest CD, "Bobbaldwin.com". His work ethic
is solid and his ability to make records year in and year out will prove
to be blatantly inevitable years from now.
I had the pleasure of working on a remix on Eric's 1998 CD, "Small Talk". I worked on a tune called, "For Real" and this enabled EE to get tremendous exposure on smooth jazz stations nationwide. What a pleasure to work with this young guitar lion.

BIOGRAPHY
Eric Essix is a multifaceted artist who
over the past ten years has created music for nearly every medium imaginable
but has concentrated on recording and performing his own guitar- flavored
instrumental and vocal compositions for audiences throughout the country.
He was born in Birmingham, Alabama during the height of the civil rights struggle. The music of Miles Davis, Wes Montgomery, Dave Brubeck, James Brown and the Temptations poured from the family stereo. Over the airwaves, Eric discovered the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and the Rolling Stones. While in church every weekend, he received heavy doses of southern gospel and spirituals. All of these different musical genres came oozing through his fingertips when he was in receipt of his first guitar and amplifier at age ten and has maintained it's presence even today.

His earlier performances were with gospel groups at his church and later on several high school talent programs. Then in 1984 he joined his first working band, Souvenir, and began playing the Birmingham club scene. When the band broke up two years later, Eric produced his first solo album, a collection of eight original songs, and called it, "First Impressions". The album garnered substantial airplay on local and regional jazz radio which caught the attention of Nova Records, which was the hot new contemporary jazz label on the West Coast. The now defunct label folded in 1993 but not before releasing two CDs; |
| It wasn't long after the folding of Nova
that the Berkelee School of Boston graduate signed on with the Diadem Music
Group/Tribute Records, where he shared the label with Gospel Contemporaries
Yolanda Adams and Ben Tankard) and completed two more national releases
for them, Just Like You and Beautiful Music: Guitar. The Gospel Label was
open to his Jazz roots, but Essix's background in Gospel reciprocated and
created a formidable partnership.
He is currently recording under his own label S6 Jazz Records and continues to produce and distribute new music at his more than 200 annual performances across the U.S., mail order and now, the Internet. In addition to his many recordings as a solo contemporary jazz artist, Eric has composed music for a number of national and regional advertising campaigns. In 1996 he completed the score for the film Broken Ground, a compelling documentary on southern race relations that has been shown on public television and at film festivals nationwide. |
