Bermuda's newest
radio station - KJAZ 98.1FM – officially launches!
Adds Bob
Baldwin as the morning host (6:00am - 9:00am)
SEPTEMBER 2,
2005 - Bermuda’s newest radio
station, KJAZ 98.1FM, officially launches this Sunday! KJAZ is the
brainchild of Leo Trott, President of LTT Broadcasting, Ltd., who has
been developing an exciting programming blend of jazz, blues and world
music along with co-owners Derick CJ Symonds and five other jazz
enthusiasts .
The Morning Show
(6:00AM - 9:00AM) will be hosted by New York/Atlanta - based
Contemporary Jazz Recording Artist/Composer/Producer Bob
Baldwin and is expected to be the best morning show on island. Bob
has worked with radio stations CD101.9 in New York
City, WCLK in Atlanta, and
WBLS in New York.
Bob is also the Executive Producer of Croton Park Music Festival 2005
that showcased Smooth Jazz Artists Phil Perry, Marion Meadows, and
Pieces of a Dream and attracted over 6,000 people. Also
worked in-studio with Roy Ayers, Grover Washington Jr., Will Downing,
Chuck Loeb and many others (we may see some of these artists perform in
the near future). This Keyboardist will be releasing his 10th
CD entitled, “All In A Day’s Work” later this fall.
Baldwin also
has been assigned the exciting task of Music Consultant for the
station, infusing some of American’s best Contemporary Jazz music as
well as co-directing the newly developed festival festivals that will
be presented by KJAZ. He has 20 years
broadcasting experience and has worked for WBCX Jazz and Smooth Jazz
105.3 in Jacksonville,
Fla in
the last couple of years.
Why this particular
blend of music? “Its alive, vibrant, creative, intuitive, impulsive, no
other genre can reflect life like jazz and blues,” says Symonds. Trott has been a devoted jazz fan since his
school days in Northern Alabama where
he spent time in backwoods juke joints listening to the best jazz and
blues that will probably never show up in the record stores. Upon his
return to Bermuda, he found that
there was a lack of good jazz programming here and began dreaming of
ways to make it happen. KJAZ will feature a mix of straight-ahead and
contemporary jazz, Blues, Latin, world beat and nu jazz/soul, “and
anything with a groove - music you can feel!”
Appealing to serious
jazz fans as well as crossover listeners, the KJAZ style is expected to
attract a core audience of affluent and educated professionals aged
35+. This audience is very desirable to advertisers, and contracts with
several major sponsors are currently being finalized. There has been
strong interest from many other local companies as well. Ad space is
currently limited to 5 ads per program hour (i.e. for every 60mins of
music, listeners are exposed to 5mins of commercial ads). This concept
ensures that ads are not 'daisy-chained' or bundled together, which is
a major turn-off . Considering Advertising? Go online to see what we

KJAZ 98.1FM has been
gaining attention from listeners already as it has been broadcasting
for the past few weeks with automated programming. The station will be
going live and is hosting its official launch this Sunday, September 4th.
The regular announcing line-up includes: Local Jazz Announcers C.J. and Lee Johnson who have a loyal
audience from midday - through afternoon drive. Nic Swan
will host weekday evening’s freestyling a mix of Nu jazz, broken beats,
and Acid Jazz. Danny Garcia (jazz pianist) will host
Latin Grooves 9:00-11:00AM.

Ltd. will also take on a small number of new announcers. The right
